S.J.’s work with people living on the margins in Boston and Wilmington, along with his own experiences on the street in Florida and Atlanta, informs his portrayal of urban life in the fictional city of Orman. He enjoys exploring and exposing the less-traveled alleys of contemporary America, with humor and humanity.

The Inspiration Behind the Series

The Adam Perdue series was born out of S.J. Spain’s love of classic detective stories and a desire to create a different kind of sleuth. Inspired by America’s often gritty yet always aspirational small cities, he created the city of Orman.

His experiences and observations of life on the margins influence his writing, adding authenticity and depth to the characters and plots. Readers can expect a thrilling journey with unexpected twists in every book.
